Before class
Who can attend?
DMEC’s published general attendance policy requires students to be 21 or older, US citizens, and legally able to possess a firearm. Illinois residents must have a valid FOID card. Students under 21 may attend with a parent or guardian who is also enrolled. The separately listed Youth Safety Class is for ages 8+ and does not include live fire; confirm guardian requirements with DMEC. Law enforcement-only courses have additional eligibility requirements.
Where will we train?
DMEC uses a private outdoor range approximately 20 minutes west of Rockford, Illinois. Training also travels to host ranges, clubs, departments, and churches. Confirm the exact location for your selected class.
What should I bring?
Ask for the equipment list for your specific course. Outdoor classes run in the weather, so dress for the conditions. Students must sign a liability waiver before class.
What if I need to cancel?
Deposits are non-refundable. For classes other than concealed carry, give DMEC notice and your deposit becomes full credit toward a future class with room. Classes DMEC cancels are refunded in full.
