Proficient Pistol is our foundations pistol class. This class focuses on fundamentals, and is appropriate for new and veteran shooters.
To attend any of our classes, you must be 21 years of age, a legal US citizen, and able to possess a firearm under state and federal law. Illinois residents must possess a valid FOID card. Students under the age of 21 may attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian also attending the class as a student. Our classes are shot on a private, outdoor range. We shoot rain or shine, so please check local forecast the day before your class so you can dress appropriately for the weather. Students will be required to sign a waiver of liability before class starts.Proficient Pistol is a handgun course designed to refine and validate a shooter’s ability to operate a pistol safely, efficiently, and accurately under realistic conditions. The class emphasizes mastery of core fundamentals—including grip, stance, sight management, trigger control, and recoil management—while integrating reloads, malfunction clearing, and decision-making under time constraints. Through structured drills and measured performance standards, students will build consistency, confidence, and accountability with the pistol, culminating in evaluated shooting exercises that demonstrate practical proficiency rather than basic familiarity.
